An employee working on the Sierra Nevada ski-resort installation died as a result of an accident on Wednesday.
Juan Carlos C, aged 59, had been carrying out maintenance work on a cable car at the moment of the accident.
Today, the entire workforce employed by Cetursa, which runs the ski station, gathered at the foot of the said cable car; Borreguiles. Juan Carlos had worked for the company for over 20 years.
A representative for the workers’ union, CCOO, said that they suspected that safety measures had not been observed or were absent when work is being carried out off the ground. Consequently, the CCOO has requested that government, work inspectors investigate the accident .
The Secretary General for the UGT workers’ union, Antonio Jesús Zarza, said that the Comité de Seguridad y Salud Laboral for Cetursa should carry out their own investigation, as well as for alacrity from the Work Inspection Department
Editorial comment: all accidents that involve injury or death are automatically investigated by the Work Inspection Department and therefore needs no “request” from the UGT or CCOO.
