New Paseo Lighting

Almuñécar Town Hall started work just before Semana Santa on changing the street lighting along the Paseo Prieto Moreno.

A total of 19 lampposts between the beginning of the said paseo and the Caletilla (which is the tiny beach at the foot of the Peñón del Santo) will be changed because they have corroded owing to sea spray.

The new lamps will be low-consumption ones, which will produce in savings in public-lighting costs, explained the Councillor for Mantenimiento y Obras, Francisco Rodríguez.

As for the cost of purchasing the new lighting arrangement, it costs a little under 18,000 euros, offset by a grant from the Provincial Council. However, even with the installation work being carried out by Town-Hall workers, the total cost will be a little over 20,000 euros.

Editorial comment: who chose the original street lighting if it was susceptible to the corrosive effect of nearby seawater?
