Salobreña has a very original litter bin on one of its beaches in the form of a wire-cage manta ray.
The municipal Department for the Environment mounted this item of beach furniture, designed by local artist, Luis Villaescusa, right between Chiringuito El Peñón and Restaurante La Bahía. Its metal structure is painted green.
According to Environmental Councillor, Ángela Rodríguez, it is very important to “free our beaches of plastic; a very contaminating material taking a thousand years or more to disappear.”
She went on to say, “Seabeds are invisible ecosystems for the human eye, which is why even if we can’t see them, we must looked after them.”
These objects attract a lot of attention, especially from children, who will want to try them out whilst their parents take photos of it and post them on social media, making the idea not only very original but highly effective.
