There was an accident on the A-7 today where it passes through the municipality of Motril, resulting in a death and several injured.
A woman in her 60s was killed instantly when her car had a frontal collision with a lorry, which was occupying her lane. The male passenger in her car was very seriously injured and was taken by helicopter to the PTS hospital in the city of Granada.
The Motril fire service was needed to cut the car open to get to the injured man and remove the dead body trapped within the wreckage.
The lorry, which was loaded with fertiliser had already hit two other vehicles before colliding head on with the victims’ car.
An occupant in one of those two cars was also helivacked to Granada as this person’s injuries were serious, as well. However, the other occupant in that same car also had to be cut out of the wreckage but was practically unhurt.
The occupants of the third car involved were relatively unhurt.
The accident occurred at 11.15h this morning where the autovia passes next to Puntalón. It is thought that the lorry suffered a fault (possibly a blow out) causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
It was necessary to close the autovía down for at least two hours, causing considerable tail backs, with the Guardia Civil having to redirect traffic onto the N-340.
