Fire personnel with their extending ladder were called out to rescue a fairground-attraction worker yesterday morning.
This incident took place in the middle of the Corpus fiestas in Granada at the Ferial de Almanjaya.
When the emergency services, including the police, were sent to the fairground, they didn’t have much idea as to where the victim was; they knew which attraction it was; the Gigant XXL, but they couldn’ see anybody on it.
The piece of machinery is a giant construction in the form of a two-bladed propeller, to give you an idea. The man was sat in a sort of enclosed space within the hub and not visible from the ground.
Fortunately, the Policía Local have their own drones, which are operated by the La Unidad Halcón, so the drone was put into action to find the worker, which it did, sat in this yellow box with a round entrance. He was sat down because you can’t really stand up in it.
The police showed the fire personnel where he was and they started feeding out their extending ladder to the height of the hub. They had to coach him out onto the platform and finally he was returned to Mother Earth.
The maintenance worker had had no problem climbing up to the union point between the two arms of the aparatus, but looking down from there he had though better of it
