On the 1st of April there were changes to the work load of the Guardia Civil Maritime Service; the same number of officers but more hours.
Consequently, the Granada branch of the Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles, has announced that this situation has put into jeopardy the quality of the summer policing coverage along the coastline of Granada.
They say that the big wigs decided to opt for increasing the hours to be worked by the crews on these patrol craft rather than increase recruitment of GC officers for when the summer hugely increases the work load.
The AUGC in Granada says that the extra hours might not go down as overtime, thus not paid. Put another way, crew members on Guardia Civil launches normally work 150 hours/months (15h shifts x 10 sorties). However it is liable to reach 240 hours a month (24h shifts x 10 sorties a month). The extra nine hours will go unregistered.
