Well, if you are interested in setting one up, then have a word with Salobreña Town Hall. Here's why...
Bearing in mind that elections are approaching, thus we are in the middle of the Olympic Porkie Championships… the Mayor of Salobreña (until next month; she’s stepping down) has announced that there are plots available for glamping installations along the Avenida de Andalucía.
This item of news, together with a cohousing project (which is explained at the foot of the article) came about during an interview that she had with Radio Salobreña,.
Mayor María Eugenia Rufino, said that having a campsite within the municipality has long been discussed. In fact, we interviewed Mayor Menéndez around 2003/04 and he also mentioned it.
She said that this type of tourism is growing, pointing out that when most camper vans arrive it is not during the summer, but during off season, which complements high-season tourism. However, she said, it has to be regulated (controlled).
For the above reason the Town Hall has made available two plots of public land for those companies interested in setting up a camping area. She did say that such installations would not be along traditional lines but rather of the glamping kind. Glamping is a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with traditional camping.
Of the two plots; one is presently used as a parking area and the other is behind Salomar 2000. In the same area would go the cohousing project, more precisely, near Urbanización La Fragata and will include 40 units. This cohousing is for a group of retired people who form a ‘community’ and already have authorisation from the Town hall.
*Cohousing [from Wikipedia] is an intentional community of private homes clustered around shared space. The term originated in Denmark in late 1960s. Each attached or single family home has traditional amenities, including a private kitchen. Shared spaces typically feature a common house, which may include a large kitchen and dining area, laundry, and recreational spaces. Shared outdoor space may include parking, walkways, open space, and gardens. Neighbours also share resources like tools and lawnmowers.
Households have independent incomes and private lives, but neighbours collaboratively plan and manage community activities and shared spaces. The legal structure is typically a homeowner association or housing cooperative. Community activities feature regularly scheduled shared meals, meetings, and workdays. Neighbours gather for parties, games, movies, or other events. Cohousing makes it easy to form clubs, organise child and elder care, and carpool.
