You might have noticed a mobile Punto Limpio in the Town Hall Square in Salobreña, which will be moved to different areas around town.
A Punto Límpio is somewhere to dispose of household rubbish other than normal, domestic organic waste, which is collected every day. This container (about the size of a small shipping container) has separate openings for batteries, used cooking oil, small electrical appliances, spray cans, plastic lids, electrice bulbs and fluorescent tubes, as well as for used clothes.
It’s part of the Provincial Council’s ARCOTUR project for tourist areas, which in turn is part of the EU NextGeneration funding. The idea is to improve circular and sustainable economy by providing municipalities with mobile, mini-Punto Límpios.
“Salobreña has been chosen because of the high number of visitors it receives thanks to its tourism,” explained the Councillor Ángela Rodríguez. She also said that in coming months streets with shops will have awnings placed above them to provide shade.
Editorial comment: what she didn’t say that the permanent municipal Punto Límpio is in a sorry, semi-abandoned state, owing to vandalism and a complete lack of control on the part of the Town Hall.
