Village Athlete Wins Spanish Championships

The team in which herradureño athlete, Alejandro Cortés López, participated, was proclaimed winner in the Spanish Championships, sub16 in the 4x400m, relay-race on Saturday the 17th last month.

The race was held in Antequera on a covered track where his relay team (belonging to the Club Trops Cueva de Nerja) completed the 1,600m race in three minutes, 42 seconds and 12 milliseconds.

Alejandro was assigned the third leg, during which he took his team from second to first place, beating their rivals Club Playas de Castellón, which had led the race for the first two legs.

His team mates, Gonzalo Allodi Rodriguez and Fernando Barrau Portillo ran first and second respectively and the last leg, Jaime Nuez Chaparro, maintained the lead to the finishing line.

Club Playas de Castellón were no easy push overs as they held the sub16, relay-race champion position for several years in the masculine category, however, the Club Trops Cueva de Nerja already held the women’s category.
