Almuñécar intends to extend the 'look' of the Paseo de San Cristóbal' further along westwards by adapting the Paseo de La China Gorda to the same design.
Now, those with just a smattering of Spanish might mistakenly believe that the title translates for “The Fat, Chinese-Woman Promenade,” but it does in fact mean the Large-Pebble [beach] Promenade.
There are similarly misleading place names in Almería, such as Mata La Gorda, Bala Negra and Guardia Viejas, all of which are pitfalls for the linguistically limited who would interpret them as Kill the Fat Woman, Black Bullet and Old Guard, two of which could well be the title of a new Bond Film, if they go for a politically correct new Bond character.
But anyway, less of this warbling and onto the subject of the article; work on the paseo that leads round to Cotobro from Chinasol. The Councillor for Maintenance, Beatriz González, explained that having a paseo with a uniformed appearance from El Peñón del Santo to half way around to Cotobro was a spiffing idea and that the Town Hall had 100,000 euros from the Provincial Council’s budget surplus from 2021 for the task.
The company which was hired for the job, Geocaminos, will also change the street lighting, as well as the pavement and will resurface the parking bays, as they presently look like the Somme 1916.
The Councillor says that the work should be concluded by Christmas. Unfortunately, she didn’t mention which.
