Oliver 02/11 Update

After a very lengthy operation, surgeons managed to remove 90% of the child's brain tumour, which is far more than they hoped.

LHR Oliver & Brain TumourThe operation at Hospital San Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona took ten hours and required a team of 15 people in the operation theatre. To put that into perspective, open-heart surgery takes around six hours.

It was impossible to remove all the tumour because it is attached to the brain stem.

This means that if/when the tumour grows in size again, there might have to be another operation.

The oncological Department is now studying the molecular make up of the removed mass to decide how they will proceed with post-operative treatment.
