The Guardia Civil arrested three men, all in their 30s, in Vélez de Benaudalla, after they were caught harvesting marihuana plants.

None of the men, aged between 32 and 36, has a criminal record, for the moment... However, as they were surprised actually harvesting the plants, a not-guilty verdict could be optimistic, to say the least.

The Salobreña-based, Guardia Civil had heard of an illegal, outdoor plantation somewhere in the Pago Carabina area of Vélez de Benaudalla and had begun investigating.

They eventually found it and then came across three gentlemen happily harvesting the marihuana plants. Next to them was a plastic, fruit crate with two kilos of picked leaves. Also nearby, a plant the size of a Triffid on steroids was waiting to have its leaves removed.

Editorial comment: The police operation was part of a nationwide one called Miller – God knows where they get these operation names from but some of them are weird enough to be the fruit a recreational assistance – just joking!
