Hill fires used to be a thing of the summer but not now, as another fire grips the north of the province in the Sierra Arana.
The fire, which broke around 21.30h last night, is affecting the municipalities of Deifontes, Iznalloz and Cogollos Vega.
The actual location of the fire was thought to be near the area known as the Cueva del Agua in Iznalloz but this morning Infoca was mentioning the Cañada Larga.
The forest-fire, fighting agency, first despatched two fire engines and 18 fire fighters – there is no air support during the hours of darkness.
As the night wore on, the number of boots on the ground had grown to 94, supported by five fire trucks by midnight.
As the fire is not far from the province of Jaén, 23 Infoca personnel and a fire engine from there had bolstered the deployment. Other additions were a meterological and a communications unit.
By 06.30h the fire was declared “estabilizado,” meaning that it had been contained but still not extinguished. With dawn two helicopters and a sing-engined water bomber had joined the operation.
This was the second call out for Infoca in the province within just twelve hours.
