The Policía Nacional in the city of Granada have arrested a man with a criminal record, suspected of usurping his twin-brother's identity.
The 38-year-old man had been stopped for drink-driving and would have to pay a fine and lose six points off his driving licence… so he showed his brother’s ID.
The victim had accidently left his wallet in his brother’s car and without knowing exactly where he had lost it, sent off a request for a new ID and Driving Licence. This was in August last year.
Then came July this year when he checked online and found that he had lost six points from his licence. He approached the DGT (Traffic Department) and they informed him that he had been stopped in the early hours of the 14th of January, drunk at the wheel and duly fined; hence the loss of points.
He immediately suspected his brother of having possession of his original ID and had used it to dodge the fine, etc. Furthermore, the car cited in the fine document matched the description of his brother’s one.
Not a happy bunny, he reported his dastardly twin brother to the police, which led to his arrest and being charged with idendity theft.
