The gasolinera in La Herradura was cordoned off yesterday afternoon when a suspcious object was found on the premises around 15.45h.
Both the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil arrived to close the gasolinera whilst the object was examined.
A moped/scooter rider pulled into the forecourt to fill his bike up. After he had paid he left immediately and left a suspcious package behind. The package contained bottles with wires attached and a “strange lump of something.”
The Guardia Civil bomb disposal experts (TEDAX) arrived to ascertain whether it was some form of explosive device. It turns out that it was a hoax bomb; something made to look like one.
The Mayor, Ruiz Joya, explained yesterday evening, “the package was a fake bomb and that traffic is being restored on the N-340.”
In the meantime the Guardia Civil closed the mainroad to traffic as well as attempting to track down the moped rider – as after examining CCTV footage the vehicle was identified.
