After receiving extensive criticism over fresh water being dumped into the sea from the Mercadona building, the Town Hall has acted.
Together with the owners of the building and the Central Irrigation Board for Río Seco, Río Verde & Río Jate, an agreement was reached whereby the water coming from stabilisation work on the building is now diverted to the Sandovala Vega irrigation system.
Water was being dumped into the dry riverbed of Rió Seco opposite the supermarket from where it made its way across San Cristobal beach to the sea.
The Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón, said that they had been working on a solution for the last two weeks.
The opposition party, CA, reported the problem on the 3rd of August, pointing out that Sandovala-vega farmers were crying out for water for their trees yet water was being simply washed into the sea.
