Two swimmers came across a 44-kilo package of hashish floating in the sea last Friday, just visible from the beach in Castell de Ferro.
The swimmers, both tourists, informed the Guardia Civil, who sent their launch, Río Genil, to fish out the water-proof packaged that held 36 smaller bags inside.
It was not the first such package to appear as some days earlier, one appeared in the same area, although the outer cover was ripped as somebody had extracted some of the contents.
The most probable reason behind their being in the sea is that they were jettisoned when drug runners thought that they had been spotted by a Guardia Civil launch as they neared the land off Castell de Ferro.
