Medical Centre Protests

Around 60 people gathered in front of the Salobreña Medical Centre yesterday in protest over its "very poor running," which is prejudicial for the population.

The main complaint is about the number of cuts to the service provided, which has resulted in a lack of doctors; Salobreña has only one paediatrician for the whole population, plus its summer visitors.

This general frustration has been the driving force behind the creation of an online group, which is backed by Stop Desahucios Salobreña 15M.

The groups Spokeswoman, Carmen Guerrero, explained that as well as having only one child doctor, there are days when there are only three doctors available, which means that in many cases the only appointments are via a telephone conversation with a doctor; i.e., not face to face.

If the doctor on duty in the A&E is called out, there is no doctor in that department. For this reason she calls on everybody in Salobreña to come along and protest with them on Tuesday, because this situation affects everybody.

They are also going to collect signatures to demand that there be at least two doctors on duty in the A&E, so that if one is called away, patients are not ushered out of the centre, as is the case now.
