The Asociación Lavanda Amencost, (epilepsy sufferers) has signed a deal with Salobreña Town Hall in which both entities will collaborate to help epilepsy sufferers.
This collaboration will be for jointly promoting the cause through games etc in municipal installations with the aim of fundraising for the association.
The association was set up recently, in November 2021, with the goal of making illnesses, such as epilepsy specifically and neurological disorders in general, more visible
Its name, Lavanda Amencost, refers to the well known aromatic herb which represents this illness as its the colour that somebody goes when they are suffering an epileptic fit, because they’ve stopped breathing.
Just some of the planned activities are collecting signatures in favour of having specialised doctors here on the Costa Tropical and also giving informative talks in schools.
The Chairman of the association, Antonio Villar Rodríguez, explained that there are 150,000 permanent residents on the Costa Tropical, whose numbers are increased by unregistered foreign residents and summer visitors. Furthermore, Spain’s population is ageing and consequently more prone to neurological disorders, such as strokes, dementia, Alzheimer’s and ELA, as well as epilepsy.
According to the WHO, one in every four people is going to suffer neurological problems during their lifetimes. The World Health Organisation also recommends five neurologists for every 100,000 inhabitants. The Chairman concludes with the question why is it that Hospital Santa Ana does not have one.
