There was an emergency landing by a light aircraft at the Axarquia aerodrome of Leoni Benabú near El Trapiche, which ended happily.
The trainee pilot had the misfortune of seeing one of his wheels fall off when he was already airborne – not recommended, so he radioed in his problem and emergency personnel from the nearby fire service laid a foam carpet on the runway. An ambulance and the Policía Nacional were also waiting on the ground.
The aircraft, (Diamond DA20-EC-NFV) which belongs to the One Air flight-training school, did damage its nose undercarriage, basically because it was missing the round, rubber spinning bit, you can tell that I’m ex-RAF by the technical jargon.
In reality the 27-year-old pilot from Motril carried out a perfect crash landing and walked away without a scratch or a stain on his underpants.
