The Agencia Pública de Puertos de Andalucía (APPA) approved a viability study for a Motril marina commissioned by the developers for the project.
The ante-project for the marina, which will be on Playa Granada (Pla-1 & Pla-2), will now have to have problems, submitted by third parties and admitted by the APPA, rectified.
Once done, the next step is to get approval from the Demarcación Provincial de Costas and the Junta’s Environmental Board.
The idea of a marina in Motril has been on the ‘wish list’ for decades so now the possibility of having one has taken a step closer.
The Marina will cost 129m euros, wholly financed by the private sector. Of that sum, 50m will solely be for the berths area, whilst 79m will go to building a hotel and a residential area.
The viability study was produced by Royal Haskoning, which is the Dutch company that was behind the artificial Palm Islands in Dubai.
The marina project will have a car parking area for 490 vehicles, 758 berths, a commercial area (shops, etc). There will be a 25/30-metre wide boulevard, a building for boat maintenance & repairs and a residential area covering 47,000 sq/m.
The marina complex, including the hotel and residential areas will cover almost 2-million sq/m, lying between Avenida Severiano Ballesteros and the golf course, Los Moriscos and from there down to the shore. To create the ‘wet’ area of the marina 106,360 sq/m of private land will have to disappear below the water.
