Heart Attack on Beach

There was a scene of panic on Puerta del Mar in Almuñécar on Saturday when a young person suffered a cardiac arrest.

ALM Playa Puerta del Mar 400x250It was around midday that the mother who was accompanying the victim desperately shouted for help from the other beach users.

Fortunately, there was an off-duty, police officer belonging to the Policía Nacional nearby, who managed to apply CPR procedure.

The victim, it seems, has a pacemaker, which might have had something to do with his heart stopping.

Despite the victim having his mouth full of blood because of his convulsions, the policeman and a nurse from an ICU who was also using the beach, were able to apply mouth-to-mouth  resuscitation.

Between them they managed to keep the victim alive so that an ambulance was able to rush him to Hospital Santa Ana.

A very very lucky young man. Great that a police officer and nurse were nearby. A pacemaker at such an early age. ?
To my limited knowledge. Chest compressions are the key. Keeps any oxygenated blood going to the brain. Airway obstruction is awful to try to deal with. But no compressions is the end of any chances. Well done again off duty personnel.
