Motril Town Hall is drawing up a project which will completely overhaul the configuration of its beaches and seafront paseos.
The project, which if approved and finds financing, would improve greatly the present parking arrangement, which has caused so many problems each summer, mainly because of the intransigence of Costas.
The project covers the whole seaside area between the port, where the dog beach is, right up to the municipal border with Salobreña, taking in the residence of the Belgian royal family, Villa Astrida.
The first phase would be to convert the beach into a “seaside park,. complete with green zones, pathways and even miradores, costing a total of 2.5m euros. The Town Hall hopes to fund this through the EU grants, Next Generation.
The Councillor for Tourism & Beaches, José Lemos Perea, says that they have the backing of the Junta de Andalucía.
This corridor from one end of the beach area through Playa de Poniente and Playa Granada will encompass 90,916 sq/m.
The second phase, which does not have an assigned budget figure yet, will increase the present parking spaces from 712 to 1,608, some of which will be underneath the paseo.
Furthermore, the Town Hall wants to do away with the high walls around Villa Astrida because they block the view of the beach, the Town Hall considers. This would entail negotiations with the Belgian royal family. The Town Hall consider that they no longer use this residence.
There’s also talk of a wooden bridge on wooded piles that will join Playa Granada with the access roads to the nearby urbanización, which would cost 15,000 euros.
