Almuñécar Town Hall has installed around 20 signs in public, open spaces declaring them 'free from smoke,' thanks to an accord with the AECC.

The Councillor for Social Services, together with representatives from the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC) distributed the signs amongst the selected locations around Almuñécar and La Herradura.

The areas chosen in Almuñécar are the Casa de la Juventud, Parque del P4, Castillo de San Miguel, Casa de la Cultura, la Escuela Municipal de Música y Danza, the Centro de Salud, as well as the following schools: Al Andaluz, Reina Sofía, Los Marinos La Carrera and Torrecuevas.

Also included are the following sports facilities; the municipal sports stadium, the Río Verde football grounds, the municipal swimming pool and the sports pavilion, José María García.

As for La Herradura, the chosen spaces are the Consultorio Médico, the castle/fortress, Centro Cívico, Plaza de la Independencia, the children’s parks and the village junior school.

It should be noted that although these public spaces have been declared ‘Free from smoke,’ those that do light up a cigarette there will not be fined. This is not about smoking inside, but rather smoking in front of them, so as not to set a bad example for children.
