The Spokesperson for Andalucía Por Sí in the Motril Town Council, David Martín, has called for urgent repairs to the Gorgoracha road.
He registered a motion to that effect, which will be voted upon in the next Plenary Meeting of the Town Council on the 3rd of June.
The side of the road near the Mirador is crumpling and has been temporarily cordoned off with bricks so that cars do not pass too close to this danger. On one side you have a cutting and on the other… a drop, which is where the problem is.
Councillor Martín stated that the Carretera de la Gorgoracha, “is one of the principal roads between Motril and Vélez de Benaudalla,” adding that since the autovía opened it is the preferred route for residents in the north of Motril, as it is shorter and quicker to get onto the autovía.
The problem with the road began in 2017 when the edge started to give way, first affecting the hard shoulder and rain drainage, but both these elements have disappeared thanks to heavy rains since then, eroding the actual road surface.
Now, as said above, the area has sign posts warning of the danger, yellow, surface lines around it, because it is not only cars that can have a mishap, but also cyclists and walkers. The biggest problem is without doubt that this road supports a lot of lorry traffic for the Lagos treatment plant.
