Almuñécar Forgery Lab

There's no doubt that J.Y.O. was a skilful, professional forger of ID cards; there was scarce difference between the original and one of his copies.

Working from a home laboratory set up in Almuñécar, he managed to forge 524 IDs between 2004 and 2017. He used them to get credit cards which he used for purchases and cash withdrawal.

Well, his court case has been held in the Nº1 Court of Criminal Justice in Granada where he was sentenced to three years and three months of incarceration on counts of forging official documents and identity theft. He will also have to pay a total of 900 euros in fines.

He has accepted the finding so will not be launching an appeal. This is perhaps not surprising as the Public Prosecutor had recommended ten years in the slammer.

The findings stated that he had illegally obtained  254,000 euros in this fashion, which he will have to return, most of which (251,192 euros) to the Servicios Financieros Carrefour E.F.C.

Perhaps part of the reason for his downfall was because between 2016 and 2021, he showed no official income before Hacienda. There are also the 13 arrests warrants for forgery between 1996 and 2013.

Despite having these warrants out on him in Malaga and Sevilla, he eluded arrest thanks to his false identities in some cases until the crimes had expired owing to their statutes of limitation.

The police finally caught up with him on the 10th of February last year and searched his home in Almuñécar, where they found a complete laboratory for the task.
