The Almuñécar Councillor for Sports has been whipping workers into a frenzy in order to get the Taramay park into shape for the looming bike meet.
The said park was named after Pepe Matías, whose tragic death moved Almuñécar. Pepe was a member of the motorbike club, Motoclub Tiburones. and it is this club that will holding its annual meet on the 4th of June.
Pepe was also the Town Hall’s Chief Electrician.
Sports Councillor, Luis Aragón, explained that most of the work comprises of taking down the perimeter fence on the south side of the El Pozuelo – Pepe Matías Park and replacing it… as if a fence alone would keep the bikers in!
The work, which is being carried out by the local company, Multiservicios Dayan, also includes changing sports fixtures such as the basketball hoops and replacing the main gate.
Editorial comment: reader might suspect that Mr Aragón is scratching his testicles, and that is because he is – it requires a vast amount of concentration to contemplate a fence that is not there yet.
