At the beginning of the week the Granada municipal police caugt a driver who was speeding (124kph) through the city centre on a 50kph-limit street.
Even had he been on an autovía he would still be breaking the speed limit. Consequently, he faces charges of speeding and dangerous driving as he was moving at double the speed limit within a built up area.
This incident took place on the 9th at 17.57h – there was a mobile speed radar in place on Calle Merced Alta, which registered how fast he was moving.
As chance would have it, they were scheduled to close it down and move on at 18.00h… just three minutes after he was nabbed.
Although the speed radar registered a speed of 124kph, the 21-year-old driver had been moving faster because he had spotted the speed trap and was braking like mad as he went past.
He will face the loss of his driving licence for a period of between one and four years and a possible suspended prison sentence of between three and six months. There will also be a hefty fine.
Editorial comment: he should lose his licence for good, never mind just a temporary ban.
