Salobreña ground to a halt while cyclists competing in the Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucía Femenina 2022 poured out of the municipal stadium today.
The cycle race, which started today and will conclude on the 5th, will cover 358 kilometres, including six mountain passes. It is the first and highest level of women’s cycling competition for the UCI with Andalucía
The first leg (105.5km) set off from Salobreña at 12.30h and will conclude over in Málaga in the Axarquía municipality of Arenas. Between these two points it will pass through Carchuna, Calahonda, Motril, Almuñécar and La Herradura before crossing over into the province of Málaga. Then the cyclists will pass through Nerja, Torrox, Algarrobo, Vélez-Málaga before concluding in Arenas.
The second leg will start off from the city of Málaga (sports stadium) and will conclude in Mijas covering 118 kilometres. The competitors will pass through Alhaurín de la torre, Estación de Cártama, Pizarra, Álora and Coín.
The final leg (139 km)will take them from Fuengirola and conclude in Castellar de la Frontera in the province of Cádiz having passed through Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Casares y Gaucín.
Editorial comment: curiously, there were more Guardia Civil motorcycle police than competitors. I was going to add, “Sad but Avoidable” and rattle a few cages… 😉
