Motril Shooting Trial Begins

We did an article back in March 2020 on a shooting in a cortijo along the Ramblas de las Brujas in Motril - the court case will be on Tuesday the 3rd.

MOT Rambla de Las Brujas Shooting MR20 400x250If you check out the said article, you will see that there was very little information at the time other than a man had shot his brother following a heated argument.

The Public Prosecutor is recommending 13 years imprisonment for the brother for attempted murder, who had been egged on by his wife with the words, “kill him! shoot him, now!” The accused is also charged with the illegal possession of a firearm which will mean another three years’ imprisonment.

The shooting took place around 16.40h on the 4th of March, 2020 in a cortijo along the said rambla. The victim and his wife had arrived at the cortijo and no sooner than entering, the two brothers began to row violently. The two wives also exchanged blows.

The victim tried to use a taser on his brother without managing to make contact before it was knocked from his hand. The fist fight continued for a moment but they then broke apart, out of breath.

The couple were about to go back to their car  when the accused grabbed a revolver that he had hidden in the cortijo and pointed at the victim, saying, “I’m going to kill you like a dog!”

At this point the accused’s wife egged him on with, “kill him, shoot him now!” And with that he pulled the trigger and started firing. One of the bullets hit the victim in the abdomen.

Consequently, the wife has also been charged with attempted murder as an instigator and the Public Prosecutor recommends a prison sentence of seven years. She also faces a fine of 720 euros for the injuries inflicted on the victim’s wife from when they also came to blows.

But it doesn’t stop there because the victim’s wife also has to pay a fine of 720 euros for the blows that she dealt out. Finally, the victim has to pay the same fine for the  injuries that the accused received during the fist fight.

Editorial comment: and they all lived  happily ever after… Oh, and we still have no idea what the whole thing had been over, either.
