Residents of Almuñécar and La Herradura, who are over 65 or receive a disability pension, can apply for a free bus pass (M65) for use on municipal buses.
Those interested can apply at the Town Hall in Almuñécar or the Centro Cívico in La Herradura, explained His Evilness a.k.a. Councillor for Hacienda, Rafael Caballero
This is the result of an accord struck between the Town Hall and the company that won the contract for providing an urban-bus service: Roalfa Transporte Urbanos SL (Grupo Fajardo).
“To this end the Town Hall has set aside in the annual budget a sum (50,000 euros) to cover the costs of the bus passes each year, which can be increased, if needed,” explained the said councillor.
Councillor Caballero said that the M65 bus passes will be given out in a generalised manner to people who are empadronado in the municipality and have reached 65 years of age and that the pass will not need to be replaced after a given period.
However, each year pass holders will have to demonstrate that they are still entitled to one. Obviously, this has nothing to do with your age – nobody gets younger – but is more in line with that you are still empadronado in the municipality.
Pass holders must carry out this requirement between the 1st of January and the 31st of March each year, otherwise the pass will expire. If you do request a bus pass and received notification that it’s ready to be picked up and you don’t do so within three months, you lose it, too. Bus passes will be issued from the bus company’s office (in the bus station).
