Early Easter Call Outs

The emergency-services, call centre, 112 dealt with 5,913 call outs from all over Andalucía between Friday the 8th and Monday the 11th.

AND Emergency Call Centre 112This period is the first weekend of Easter, from Viernes de Dolores to Lunes Santo; in other words, the first wave of Easter road traffic. Obviously, that’s up (by 8.6%) on last year when Easter celebrations were still restricted.

Most of the calls were for ambulances, totalling 3,051 and police 1,123. Traffic accidents and incidents numbered 436, whilst animal-related calls for rescue and veterinary attention amounted to 305. House fires, etc accounted for 222 call outs. Finally, there were 56 call outs for land and sea rescues.

Most of the calls came in on Palm Sunday, totalling 2,516 and the busiest time that day was between 20.00h and 21.00h when 176 incidents were logged.

A provincial breakdown reads as follows: Sevilla, 1,682, Málaga, 1,185, Granada, 724 and Cádiz, 719. The ‘quieter’ provinces were Córdoba, 535, Almería, 385, Jaén, 347 and Huelva with 336.

In case you didn’t know it, the 112 emergency number has operators who can speak English, French, German, Arabic, as well as Spanish. They will take and respond to calls from anybody, anywhere in Andalucía and it doesn’t matter whether you live here or are just passing through.
