An illegal breeding farm for cock fighting birds was uncovered and shut down in the northern barrio of Granada, Casería de Montijo.
The Policía Local moved in on Friday morning after having received a complaint from the neighbourhood association on the estate.
The complaint was that one of the residents had expropriated part of a public garden in order the set up the criadero (breeding farm).
The culprit had fenced off the area into two parts; one for a badly nourished hen that provided the chicks that would be used for cock fighting. The other was turned into a vegetable patch, watered using a public, water source.
A large lorry belonging to the refuse-collection company, Inagra, was needed to cart away all the junk used in the breeding area, such as old baths, etc.
During the inspection carried out by the municipal police they found that the electricity supply for the whole nearby block of flats had been rigged up in order to provide “free” electricity for the flats and in a public square, two abandoned motorbikes were removed.
Editorial comment: Unless the estate has changed drastically since I used to visit there in the early 90s, it is not a place where you would be tempted to leave your car parked over night.
