The Asociación de Chiringuitos y Empresarios de Playas de la Costa Tropical demands that the Central Government urgently solves the road-transport conflict.
“We need the Government to put urgent measures into place to counter the rise in prices and the logistic dearth that is starting to emerge, which is making our sector suffer,” said the Chairman of the association, Francisco Trujillo, adding, “if it is not sorted out, we will have to close our businesses in just a few days.”
He said that first the energy prices, then the rise in certain other prices and now the road-transport strike has them with their backs to the wall, forcing them to seriously consider shutting down chiringuitos and other beach-related business.
“The excessive cost of electricity and gas has already badly affected us and some products have gone up 200%, mainly sunflower and olive oil,” he went on to explain, finishing with, “but with the lack of supplies in fish, fruit and vegetables we just cannot function.”
The enormous impact that the strike is having on the hostelry trade in unsustainable even though they are barely managing to absorb the costs, he considers that the crunch is that they simply can’t offer their customers what they do not have.
