Drunk Parking

There was a car accident in the city of Granada last Wednesday requiring the fire service to free one of the four occupants.

GRA Drunk Crash 02The accident was the result of drink driving – the driver cut across Calle Palencia from the Avenida de Italia and ended up smashing into a loading platform belonging to Merca 80.

One of the rear passengers was badly injured and pinned in by the caved in side of the car.

According to the Policía Local the accident occurred at 06.07h when the black, Peugeot 206 ran straight into the side of the loading bay.

By the time the police arrived they found three occupants – a fourth had fled the scene.

Once the man in the back was finally freed, he was rushed to Trauma (Hospital Virgen de Las Nieves) critically injured and operated on immediately.

As for the driver, the police soon found that it was a 22-year-old woman, who does not posses a valid licence and was drink driving – she was three times over the legal limit.

The front passenger was another 22-year-old woman who will probably remain in custody as she is in the country illegally. As for the fourth and final occupant, the police are investigating this persons identity

According to the police, the woman admitted that she had been driving and that she was at the wheel because the person who was supposed to be driving was “very drunk.” Apart from any fines, she will have  to pay for the damage caused to the loading bay, as when a driver is drunk at the wheel, the insurance companies will not pay out.

As for the car, it is a write off.

Update: the hospitalised man, who is also the owner of the car, died from his injuries 24 hours after the accident.
