Wave action provoked by gale-force winds along the Axarquía coastline has ruptured a mains water pipeline in municipality of Vélez-Málaga.

To be more accurate, the breakage was on the municipal border with Torre de Benagalbón and occured around 12.00h yesterday.

The water, utility company, Aqualia, which manages the municipal necessities for the capital of the Axarquía, assured that their workers were establishing a provisional connection – the pipe breakage is considerable and a permanent fix will take time; it could take weeks.

By 18.00h the company announced that it had been able to reestablish mains water for 95% of the affected population thanks to the temporary arrangement. At that time only the residents of Urbanización Condemar, (Chilches), were the ones without water.

As for the temporary connection, it consists of about 50 metres of 500mm diametre pipe.

The Málaga coast was still on Orange Alert for adverse weather from 09.00 until 18.00h yesterday with waves up to four metres.
