The over-worked Guardia Civil nabbed two suspects, thought to be behind several acts of theft involving avocado crops in Salobreña.
The two gentlemen, to whom the concept of private ownership is a mystery, are aged 43 and 49 and the younger of the two being no stranger to the inside of a police, holding cell.
The unauthorised harvest of adjacent crops took place on the 7th, 11th and 12th of this month. As for the amounts stolen, they were 510 kg, 240 kg and 85 kg, respectively.
The farmer actually surprised the culprits on the 7th whilst they energetically collected his fruit from the trees – he called the Guardia Civil but the thieves had already made off by the time that the officers arrived. However, not before the police got a look at their car disappearing in the distance; a Renault Clio.
This same car was seen on the said farmland by witnesses on the 11th and 12th. On this last day, the Guardia Civil were ready for them and found the car as the thieves were loading it with 85 kilos of tearful avocados.
