Pensioners in Salobreña will be out protesting today, doing their part in a pensions protest that is held across Spain.

The Salobreña lot, however, thought it better to protest on Monday, rather than on Saturday when the rest of their colleagues did it. They always have a weekly gathering on Mondays, so why change?

So, what are they protesting about? They want the base pensions to be increased by the official figure for the IPC (cost of living). In fact, they have been demanding this for the last few years.

So, if you don’t want to be waylaid by belligerent pensioners on Monday, stay clear starting 12.00h of the Plaza de la Pontanilla where there will be lots of banner waving, denture gnashing and habitual visits to the toilets, which will make a nice change from vicious domino games and the clatter of zimmer frames locked in mortal combat
