No Task Is Too Small

The town truck used by the City Hall of Granada is not choosy about what it tows away; in fact, its latest victim is a bicycle.

GRA Town TruckTo be fair, the bicycle was attached to a trailer that the owner used to collect scrap, but even so…

Many pedestrians along the Gran Vía de Colón Monday morning were surprised to say the least, when the town truck sailed past pulling its booty.

It was such an unusual sight that the police decided that they would give an explanation on their Twitter account after photos started to appear on social media: not only was the trailer illegal (coupled up to a bicycle), but also the cyclist had jumped a couple of red lights.

How unusual, you say to yourself, as cyclists are always very respectful where traffic lights, zebra crossings and pavements are concerned…

The police pointed out that the trailer was ‘homemade;’ i.e, stuck together with monkey vomit and flour and that it had more sharp edges on it than Queen Boadicea’s chariot.

Another finer point was that the trailer was more than 50% the weight of the towing vehicle. Yet, all of this would have probably gone unnoticed (studiously ignored) had a police patrol not seen the cyclist jump two sets of traffic lights.

The tow truck was needed because the bicycle was permanently married to the trailer, so it was a bit hard to confiscate.

The police also pointed out that many people involved in the scrap-collection trade use vehicular contrivances to move their wares and never take the blindest bit of notice of the municipal police officers when they inform them that their interstellar, pedal-driven, freighters are not considered road worthy.
