The Guardia Civil, Mountain Rescue Service, Sereim, had to carry out two separate rescue missions on the Sierra Nevada on Sunday.
The first rescue involved a 38-year-old woman who had fractured her ankle whilst out hiking along Los Cahorros within the municipality of Monachil.
The team was alerted at 14.00h and two team members set out to locate and bring back the victim.
As soon as they found her, they immobilised her ankle with a splint and carried her to their 4×4 vehicle and drove her to a point where the rest of the team were waiting to take her to hospital.
The second victim was a German paraglider enthusiast who came down on rugged terrain on the Cerro de los Majojos, which is also within the municipality of Monachil.
The rescue team had received an alert from the emergency, call centre, 112, at 15.20h that same day. This time the Guardia Civil used their rescue helicopter with a 2-man team onboard. After overflying the area they located the 61-year-old victim.
They reached him on foot whilst the helicopter waited nearby. The aircraft then hovered over the victim and rescue team, coming as low as possible in order to get the stretcher in. According to the report the victim was “corpulent and heavy.”
He was flown immediately to the PTS General Hospital in Granada.
