Amongst the items from the old, sugar factory that will be restored is the factory's original fire engine.
It was made by Renault and adapted to the special needs of the sugar factory. Its workmanship and dimensions meant that it could reach every part of the complex in case of fire.
Even though it was built for the factory, on more than one occasion it was also used to tackle fires in Motril itself when the town didn’t have its own fire service.
The restoration work on the fire engine is being financed by Cajasur, which signed an accord with the Town Hall as its sponsor.
The restorers had their work cut out for them as the fire engine was in a much deteriorated state given the passage of time and the years after which the factory was closed down and left abandoned.
Despite this seemingly insurmountable task, it has been lovingly restored to its original shiny state. To achieve this it had to be completely disassembled and each part had the successive paint coats removed so that the bronze, tin and iron can appear as it did when it came out of the Renault factory.
