The Guardia Civil in Órgiva are investigating a man, possessor of a criminal record, of burglary and extorsion.
According to the police, on the 27th of November between 13.00h and 14.00h, the 39-year-old suspect gained entrance to the home of an elderly woman, knowing that she was not at home.
Having smashed a window to gain entrance, the suspect allegedly stole 3,000 euros in cash and the victim’s mobile phone.
Not content with the booty, he contacted the woman three days later and told her that if she wanted her phone back she would have to pay him 20 euros. She agreed to meet and exchange the money for her phone.
Fortunately, having met the man she was able to provide a detailed description of the burglar to the Guardia Civil. They soon tracked him down, arrested him and then took him before a judge, who released him pending trail.
