Polish Graffiti Artist Arrested

Charged with damaging Granada Cultural/Historic Heritage, she faces a suspended prison sentence of between three and six months or a large fine.

A Policía-Local, patrol car was despatched after they received a call from a local around 23.41h one Monday last month. They found the young woman, who immediately tried to ditch the cans of spray paint and flee but she was caught and arrested.

The person who had made the call was still in the vicinity and identified the woman as being the ‘author’ of the graffiti.

The river wharf has a category of Protected Space under the Junta Decreto 244/2007, which covers the riverside gardens and the riverside walk from Puente Verde up to the Puente Romano, considering it as BIC (Site of Cultural Importance).

For the above reason, painting graffiti in that area comes under the Criminal Law Code (Article 323). Charged with a criminal offence she cannot escape the Spanish Justice System by returning to Poland – she had a return-flight ticket for that same day, which she obviously missed.
