The new marina project for Motril has received the go ahead for its Plan Director de Infraestructuras which will commence at the beginning of next year.
It was the Universidad de Granada that carried out a feasability and profit viability study for the new docks and marina and concluded that the expenses accrued would be inferior to the income that the project would provide.
The new dock & marina project will cost around 35m euros, 15 of which must come from the private sector and the other 20m from the Port Authorities. The project includes a shopping centre.
The viability study was one of the last hurdles before the Port could take the work-contract conditions before the Consejo de Administración so that the project can be put out to tender.
The first phase of the project will be the paseo within the docklands (Barrio del Varadero-Santa Adela) and a new entrance into the docks from town. This phase should be ready for next summer, as the paseo has been under construction for the last four months already.
Motril will have three dock areas: one exclusively for freight, which will be the furthest apart from the town, another dock exclusively for passenger traffic for both ferries and cruiseships and the third will be a marina with 700 berths.
