The Andrés Segovia Guitar Competition 2021 commenced on Tuesday after almost two years of cancellations due to Covid restrictions.
This year the XXXVI Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Clásica Andrés Segovia will be dedicated to the deceased Chairman of the judging pannel, Diego Martínez, who died from Covid.
As has been the case in recent years, the event is being held in the Centro Cívico in La Herradura, concluding on Saturday the 20th.
Today at 19.00h the names of those that have passed the first eliminatory stage will be announced, who will then have to interpret a work of their own choice that should not exceed 20 minutes in length.
They will also have to interpret IV.Tristón and V. Compadre belonging to Ástor Pantaleón Piazzolla’s Cinco Piezas para Guitarra.
The second eliminatory stage will take place on Friday the 19th at 19.00h. Just prior to this, at 18.30h the plaque bearing the new name of the Civic Centre’s auditorium will be uncovered: Diego Martínez.
The closing event will be on Saturday the 20th at 19.00 where the finalists will interpret Concierto nº 1 en La mayor, op. 30″, para guitarra y orquesta de Mauro Giuliani, accompanied by the Cuarteto de Cuerda de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga.
