Two men have been arrested in connection with the fire in Salobreña last week next to the N-340, just above La Caleta.
The two men, aged 20 and 30, are accused of gross negligence which led to the fire just opposite the entrance for Urbanisación Alminares on the 3rd of Novemeber.
The fire consumed two hectares within the Barranco Alminares below the road.
The Environmental Department of the Guardia Civil (Seprona) tasked with investigating the cause of the fire, discovered that the two men had been erecting a circus big top (marquee).
To do this they needed to cut an iron bar using a disc cutter – the sparks that sprayed out set the nearby dry grass alight and the wind did the rest.
