The Open de España de Descenso Otivar, begins tomorrow with riders on mountain bikes doing their best to ride down a mountain and arrive in one piece.

The event will take place over both Saturday and Sunday and the programme goes like this:

Starting line: Punto Verde, Carril de la Molineta, Lentegí (36°49’11.0”N 3°39’58.2”W).
Finishing line: Punto a Cuadros, Piscina Municipal de Otívar (36°48’57.8”N 3°40’35.2”W).
Refreshment: Polideportivo de Otívar.
Organisation:
Thirty-five people along the route and at both ends, five vehicles to take competitors up to the start point, three vehicles with Protección Civil volunteers and ambulance with paramedics.
Timetable:
Saturday
09:30 a 12:00: riders collect their participant numbers to be worn
10.00h to 14.00h & 16.00h to 18.30h: training sessions.

Sunday:
08.30h to 09.30h: warm ups
10.00h to 12.00h: main classification event
12.00h to 14.00h: finals
14.00h to 15.00h: prize giving

These guys are fearless because the speed they come down the mountainside, with their wheels on the ground only half the time, requires skill and a touch of lunacy.

Paula and Dave at the Hotel Boutique Villa Otívar are one of the sponsors for the event, but rumours concerning their participating on a tandem bicycle, blindfolded whilst yodelling are unfounded… we hope.

I believe they still have a couple of rooms available, if anybody wants to spend the weekend up there and combine the event with a walk to the Junta de Los Ríos or lunch over the top at Mesón Los Prados. Just saying…
