Swimming Contest Results

The weather behaved itself on Sunday during the XXI Travesía a Nado de la Bahía de La Herradura, which concluded the Circuito Provincial de Travesía.

LHR Swimming Competition 2021 WinnersAll told, 220 swimmers participated and a team of organisers was on the ball from the outset, consisting of people from the Provincial Council and local Town Hall.

The lanes had to be set up and everybody had to be organised into their categories ready to take the starting line.

The competition also counted on the collaboration of Náutica Élite and dozens of support volunteers on land and in the water in kayaks or other type of craft, just in case a swimmer needed assistance.

Yet this year required further measures, such as taking the temperature of each swimmer before they set off and at the other end, there was somebody to hand each competitor a surgical mask.

Swimmers in their categories set off from Peña Parda every two or three minutes, striking out for the finishing line on La Caleta. Things weren’t easy for them because there was a easterly current running  meaning that they had to swim against it at least half of the way.
