Councillor for Tourism and Beaches, Gabriel Alonso, wanted to clarify that this is no ordinary beach clean-up of the kind carried out each day by municipal workers.
Rather, it is an awareness activity concerning the global environmental problem originated by the dumping of waste in natural spaces.
“We’re trying to make children and adults aware of the rubbish people leave behind on beaches during the months of summer and the sort of problems this rubbish causes once it enters the marine environment,” explained the Councillor.
The meeting point is going to be the Playa de la Charca, in front of Urbanización Salomar at 09.30h. It is expected that the clean-up will last until 13.00h, which is when participants will be able to enjoy soft drinks and tapas.
The organisers would like each participant to bring his or her own rubber gloves, bucket, an empty, plastic bottle (in which to put any cigarette ends), as well as, sun-barrier cream, drinking water and a mask (surgical). The organisers will provide gloves and a bag for those that turn up without them, however.
The clean up will be organised into teams of five people, each with a team captain. Children can participate as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
