Police Praise Citizen Help

The Guardia Civil have praised the beach users who helped trap two drug runners on Playa Melicena as they tried to elude capture by the police.

ECO Narco Launch Playa MelicenaThe Asociación Unificada de Guardias Civiles (AUGC) said that besides the two arrests, the police had also managed to stop 808 kilos of hashish reaching the black market.

Amongst the bathers was also a sergeant belonging to the Guardia Civil who was on holiday who actually tackled one of the narcos and was helped by other people on the beach to hang onto him until his colleagues arrived to arrest him.

The AUGC communiqué read, “it is getting harder each day to patrol the streets or, as in this case, patrol the coastal waters, because thousands of kilos of hashish and marihuana are being moved through our province.”

They added, “the lack of material resources and personnel is patent so any help police forces receive from the citizenry is much appreciated.”
